TR A320

A320 Type Rating Revalidation or Renewal

To maintain the near expiring A320 Type Rating up to date (three months in advance) there is a possibility to opt for a revalidation which will requires you carry out a verification of competency with an A320 SFE/TRE in an FFS simulator (2-hour session with briefing and debriefing).

Alternatively, if you have an expired A320 type rating, you will need to carry out a previous refresher course in order to carry out the competency verification with an A320 SFE/TRE in an FFS simulator (2-hour session with briefing and debriefing).

Renewal of an Expired TR A320

The Head of Training (HT) is who will evaluate your particular situation, always taking in to account your global experience and particular type, the date of your last real flight or simulator, among other things.

He will then propose the necessity of a verification and/or the amount of required training sessions; always studying each case separately and in accordance with the ruling.

Also, the amount of training needed to achieve the required level of competence, will increase similarly to the passed time since the last date the rating privileges were used.

The range is from 0-1 to 3 sessions of 2 hours in the FFS simulator with TRI Instructor + Competence Verification of 2 hours in an FFS simulator with a SFE/TRE.

TRI A320

Revalidation or renewal of A320 Type Rating Instructor TRI (A) certificate

To keep the TRI (A) instructor certificate with A320 Type Rating, at least two of the following three requirements must be fulfilled within 12 months prior to the expiry date of the type rating TRI (A) Instructor certificate:

  1. Carry out one of the following parts of a complete training course for the type rating:
    – A session of at least 3 hours in a simulator.
    – An air exercise of at least one hour which includes at least two take-offs and landings.
  2. Carry out a refresher course as TRI (A) Instructor in an ATO for a complete day with a duration of 6 hours plus exam.
  3. Pass the competency evaluation in accordance with FCL.935

Additionally, during one of each revalidation of the TRI certificate, the requirement established in point three must be fulfilled.

The most common case is when for some reason, there has been no activity, hence there has been no option to revalidate the TRI (A) authorisation due to lack of experience.

This way, a refresher course/or 7-hour seminar plus the competence verification carried out by the SFE/TR (A) for A320 in an FFS simulator (2 hours session with briefing and debriefing).

SFI A320

Revalidation or renewal of A320 Simulator Instructor SFI (A) certificate

The requirements for maintaining the SFI (A) A320 certificate are the following:

  1. Complete 50 hours as instructor or examiner in FSTD simulator. Of these hours, at least 15 will have taken place in the last 12 months previous to the expiry date of the SFI certificate.
  2. Carry out a refresher course with and SFI instructor in a ATO during a full day of 6 hours plus one exam.
  3. Pass the competence evaluation in accordance with FCL.935.
  4. Have completed the competence verifications in an FFS simulator, for the issuing of the specific aircraft type rating, which represent the types and functions.

For the A320 SFI rating to continue in force it’s necessary to have fulfilled at least two of the previous requirements within the 12 months previous to the authorisation expiry date.

Additionally, during at least one of every two revalidations of the SFI certificate, the requirement established in point three must be fulfilled.

Equally as with the A320 TRI (A) rating, the most common case is when for some reason, there has been no activity, hence there has been no option to revalidate the SFI (A) rating due to lack of experience, or inactivity for a prolonged period of time.

Therefore, a refresher course/or 7-hour seminar plus the competence verification carried out by the SFE/TR (A) for A320 in an FFS simulator (2 hours session with briefing and debriefing).
